[Composition] - The International Mother Language Day

Introduction:
The 21st February is the International Mother Language day. It is an important day in the history of Bangladesh. Mother language means the first language of a person. A person can express his / her thoughts and feelings clearly through his / her mother tongue. Our mother tongue is Bangla. We got it after much struggle on 21st February, 1952. Ii is our Shaheed Day.
History of 21st February:
The Pakistani rulers wanted to establish Urdu as the state language. Muhammad Ali Zinnah declared," Urdu shall be the state language of Pakistan." But the students and people of Bangladesh raised their voice against this declaration. On 21st February, 1952 Salam, Jabbar, Barkat, Rafik and many other heroic sons came forward. They sacrificed their lives for our mother tongue.
History of International Mother Language Day:
The UNESCO declared 21st February as the International Mother Language Day on 17 November, 1999. Now the day is observed all over the world. On this day the people of the world remember the sacrifices of our language solo martyrs.
How observed:
Every year on this day the people walk to the Shaheed Minar barefooted. They offer flowers to show honour to the martyrs. The national flag is kept half mast. The government observes the day nationally. Different parties and organizations arrange various programmes on this day.
Conclusion:
21st February is a red letter day in our national life. It is a matter of our pride. It tells the people to love their mother language. We should do everything to save the honour of our mother language.
