Introduction: 

A village fair is an annual gathering of village people. It is an occasion for show, sale of goods and enjoyment. People from all walks of life gather here. A village fair gives pleasure to the people and helps them to remove the monotony of their life.

Description:

A village fair is held on the bank of a river or a canal or in the open field under a large tree. It is held once or twice a year. It lasts for a day or two or for a week. Hundreds of stalls are set up. Different kinds of things are brought here. Fancy goods, sweetmeats, dolls, toys, flutes, balloons, baskets, imitation of ornaments and wooden things are sold in a village fair. Men, women and children gather in a village fair. The villagers sell their hand made things. They buy the things after their own choice.

Attractions:

There are many attractions of village fair. A village fair is a good form of recreation. Merry-go-round, circus, magic shows, jarigan, jatra etc are some of them.

Importance: 

A village fair is very useful to the villagers. Many people come here and earn money by selling their goods. A village fair helps to build up their economy. It shows rural life and culture. It helps to develop cottage industries.

Demerits: 

A village fair has some demerits. There is lack of proper management for sanitation. Gambling, cheating, pick-pocketing, gathering of criminals etc disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the fair.

Conclusion: 

A village fair is an important occasion for the villagers. Proper steps should be taken to make a village fair successful.
