Introduction:
Television is a wonderful gift of modern science. The word 'television' comes from the Latin words 'tele' and 'vision'. The word 'tele' means distance and vision means sight. So television means a sight from distance. It is a device of sending pictures as well as voices to the distant places. Invention: Paul Nipkow, a German scientist, first thought about sending a picture to a distant place. Then many scientists worked hard for a quite period. At last John Beyard, an English scientist, was able to invent modern television.
Usefulness:
Television is very useful. It had made the world smaller. It has removed time and distance.
(i) Communication:
Television is a modern means of communication. It serves much more than the radio. At present people easily get the news and views of home and abroad through television.
(ii) Recreation:
Television is a good source of recreation. We can hear music and songs. We can enjoy drama, dance, games and sports and many other things. We can see the actors and actresses.
(iii) Educative Value:
Television has a great educative value. Now-a-days it is being used to teach the students and illiterate people. It teaches about important topics like science, geography health etc.
Demerits:
Television has its own demerits. Sometime students waste their time by watching television programmes. Again naked scenes and films are shown television. These are harmful for the young boys and girls At times it telecasts false news and views and misguides the people.
Conclusion:
In fine, we can say that we cannot think of modern civilization without television. It is no doubt, a blessing of modern science. It is part and parcel of our daily life. So we should make the best use of television for the welfare of mankind.
