Introduction :
Bangladesh is a land of rivers. Some rivers are big and some are small. The main rivers are the Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna, the Brahmaputra and the Karnafuli. Rivers are our important wealth, They make our land e o share rich and beautiful.
Sources:
The Karnafuli rises from the Lusai Mountains. The other rivers rise from the Himalayas and fall into the Bay of Bengal.
Importance/ Usefulness:
The rivers serve us in many ways.
(a) Agriculture:
Our agriculture greatly depends on our rivers. The river water is essential for irrigation. The rivers have made our land fertile.
(b) Communication:
Our rivers play an important role in communication. Boats, launches and steamers move on the rivers. They carry men and goods from one place to another. River way communication is cheap and comfortable.
(c) Trade and commerce:
Our rivers greatly help our trade and commerce, Most of markets, mills and factories and trade centers are on the banks of the rivers.
(d) Source of energy:
We get electricity from the water of the rivers. Many rivers can be used to produce hydro electricity.
Source of fish and earning:
Our rivers are a great source of fish. Many people earn their living by catching and selling fish. We also get a lot of foreign exchange by exporting fish.
Influence on life:
Our rivers have influence our life, art and literature greatly. Many poets have written poems about rivers.
Demerits:
Sometimes the rivers cause much harm to our life and property. They overflow the banks and cause floods.
Conclusion :
Our rivers do more good than harm. In fact, our economy largely depends on them. Without rivers Bangladesh will become a desert. So they are the blessings of our country.
