Introduction: 

Paper is a very useful thing. It is a very thin sheet. We write on it. There was a time when there was no naper. Then people used to write on barks and leaves of trees.

Invention: 

Paper was first made and used in China. Some think that the Egyptians first made it. But Lui Robert, a French scientist, invented the paper mill. Paper came to our country during the reign of the Mughals. It was then made by hands. Now it is made in mills. There are paper mills at Chandraghona, Dhaka, Khulna and Paksi in Bangladesh.

Kinds and Sizes: 

There are many kinds of paper. Some are very fine and some are not fine. The chief sizes of paper are the foolscape, the demy, the double demy and the royal. We use the paper of the foolscape size for writing. The papers of other sizes are uses in printing books. The coloured papers are used for making fancy things.

How made: 

Paper is made from rags, fiber, bamboo, straw, jute etc. There things are cut into small pieces, kept in water and then boiled with soda and lime. After that, they are put into machines in order to grind into pulp. Paper is made of this pulp in mills.

Usefulness: 

Paper is very useful to us. We cannot do without it. It is largely used in schools, colleges, offices, shons etc. Our education and knowledge are not possible without it. Our books and newspaper are printed on it. In fact, paper has become part and parcel of our life.

Conclusion: 

Paper is very important for us. We cannot do even a single day without it. Our culture and civilization depend on paper. So our government should take all possible steps for its development.
