Introduction:

Natural calamity is a disaster which caused by nature. Flood, cyclone, storm, tidal bore, excessive rainfall, earthquake, river erosion, drought etc common natural disaster of Bangladesh. These calamities visit our country almost every year. So Bangladesh is rightly called a land of natural calamities.

Causes:

There are some causes behind natural calamities. Copulation, environmental pollution, climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect, deforestation, lack of plans etc are greatly responsible for natural calamities.
Flood: Flood is the most common natural calamity of Bangladesh. It is an annual affair. It is caused by heavy rainfall and melting of snow. Cyclone and tidal bore: Cyclone and tidal bore are also common in our country. They are caused by depression in the Bay of Bangal. Drought & river erosion: Drought is another natural calamity. In summer it causes loss of crops. River erosion occurs in the rainy season.

Effects:

The effects of natural calamities are dangerous. They cause great loss to our life and property. Many people become homeless and helpless. Many people and animals die. Houses, crops and trees are destroyed. People have to suffer for want of food, drinking water and medicines. The after effects of natural calamities are more serious. Many serious diseases break out. Moreover, the natural calamities affect our national economy.

Measures:

Proper measures should be taken to prevent natural disasters. Both long and short term plans can be taken. Public awareness should be raised to remove the sufferings of the affected people. We should plant more and more trees. Pollution should be stopped at any cost.

Conclusion:

Natural calamities are our daily companions. We have no hand in nature. So total prevention is not possible. But we are bold enough to face natural calamities. We live struggling against them.
